Cooler weather, rain forecast this week
Taiwan will see cooler weather and intermittent rain in northern and eastern areas this week, with temperatures dipping to 19°C from Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said yesterday.
CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) said the northeast wind will weaken briefly today before strengthening again starting tomorrow, bringing occasional showers to northern and eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south.
Taipei and northeastern Taiwan could also see locally heavy rain tomorrow, Chang said.

Temperatures are expected to rise initially today, with highs of 30-31°C in eastern Taiwan and 32-35 °C in western Taiwan, he said.
However, temperatures will fall more noticeably as the stronger northeast wind arrives, he said. Highs in northern and northeastern Taiwan are forecast to drop to around 26°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing cooler conditions throughout the day.
Clearer and drier weather on Thursday and Friday will allow nighttime temperatures to fall further due to radiational cooling, Chang said.
Lows in central and northern Taiwan and the northeast are expected to reach 19-21°C, while other areas will see lows of around 22-23°C, he added.
