Woman arrested after man killed in north London crash

One man has died and another man remains in a life-threatening condition after a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Enfield, police have said.

Met detectives have launched an appeal for witnesses following the collision, which happened in Chase Side, N14, in the early hours of Saturday, September 20.

Police were called at about 12.40am to reports of a road traffic collision. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London's Air Ambulance.

The crash involved a car and a pedestrian, with several people taken to hospital for treatment and assessment.

A 48-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle later died in hospital. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A second passenger, a 31-year-old man, remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Monday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with a specified controlled drug above the prescribed limit.

Police said she was subsequently further arrested during interview on suspicion of failing to stop following the collision. She has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Simon Ager, of the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss.

"We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any information you have could be vital in our investigation."

He added: "I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact police as this information could be crucial."

Detectives are now seeking witnesses and anyone with video footage from the area around the time of the collision as they work to piece together exactly what happened.
