Egypt’s First Local Industrial Robot Is Here

Egypt has launched its first industrial robot developed locally by Egyptian engineers and technology company RaedBots on Wednesday, 23 September, marking a new push to build not just products in Egypt, but the technology and machinery behind them.

The robot was unveiled through a collaboration between RaedBots, the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), and Egyptian manufacturing company CUBII Industrial Solutions. Unlike a technology demonstration designed only for display, the robot has been developed to work in an actual industrial setting, where its performance can be tested on a real production line.

The robot currently has an 80 percent local content rate, with that figure expected to reach 90 percent once its main motor is also produced in Egypt.

The newly launched robot is being integrated into machinery produced by CUBII, an Egyptian manufacturer specialising in automated food-filling and packaging machines as well as customised industrial automation systems.

CUBII already exports its products to markets across Africa, the Middle East and Europe, giving the robot a chance to be tested within a company that operates beyond the Egyptian market.

The Ministry of Industry plans to follow the robot’s performance at CUBII and assess whether it can meet the company’s production requirements.

For years, automation in factories has largely depended on imported machinery and robotic systems. Building the technology locally could give manufacturers greater access to automation while reducing dependence on foreign equipment and suppliers.

The Cairo-based company RaedBots designs and manufactures AI-powered robotic arms and automation systems in-house. Its work covers everything from mechanical design and electronics to control systems and AI-powered software. 

The company says its robots are being developed for applications including welding, CNC machine tending, material handling, packaging, and warehouse automation.

Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering supported the project through knowledge, scientific research, and technical expertise. Following the launch, the university and RaedBots signed an agreement to provide educational robots for student research and training.

The robot also fits into Egypt’s broader effort to increase local manufacturing and modernise its industrial sector.

The Ministry of Industry has identified machinery and production-line manufacturing as important areas for localisation. The government is also targeting an increase in the industry’s contribution to GDP from 14 percent to 20 percent by 2030.
