Netflix's 4-Part Crime Series Earns Rare Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Netflix's returning crime thriller returns with a rare Rotten Tomatoes score.

A lot has been discussed recently about how Netflix has failed to build a proper hit in the United States, with its biggest 2026 success being the Harlan Coben limited series I Will Find You.

The lack of big breakouts and declining viewership for returning originals was even acknowledged by Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos, spurring significant changes at the executive level. But at least internationally, the streamer has a robust slate of international favorites. That includes Lupin, which is back for part 4.

Lupin: Part 4 has debuted to a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The score is based on five reviews and will likely change as more critics add their assessments. The Average of Rated Reviews, viewable by clicking on the Tomatometer, currently sits at 8 out of 10, which points to a strongly positive reception.

The audience score swings wildly in the opposite direction, coming in at 19%, though that is based on fewer than 50 user-submitted ratings. Looking at the show's history, in terms of critics' reviews, the first two parts of Lupin are at 98% and 96%, respectively, while Part 3 held onto its perfect 100% score with 17 reviews. The audience scores up to now have been relatively high as well, sitting between 70% and 80% approval.

Lupin is created by George Kay, who also created the HBO legal thriller and the Apple TV action series Hijack, which is led by Idris Elba. Lupin predates those, debuting in January 2021 and introducing viewers to Omar Sy's professional thief named Assane Diop. He's the only son of an immigrant from Senegal. The move to France was made with hopes of a better life for his child, but Diop’s is framed and accused of stealing a diamond necklace. He hangs himself in prison, leaving Diop to be a teen orphan.

Diop takes inspiration from a gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin, and seeks revenge for what was done to his father. Lupin: Part 4, which also stars Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine, and Laïka Blanc-Francard, picks up a few years after the end of Lupin: Part 3. It sees the main protagonist's plans for a more peaceful life disrupted by a multi-museum heist scheme.

ScreenRant's review of Lupin: Part 4 by Shealyn Scott calls the latest episodes a “joyride,” noting that the episodes have the appeal of Sherlock's short stories while also noting that the show's fourth outing may end up serving as the perfect swansong, especially considering Diop himself is looking at the exits.

That may well be determined by the thriller's viewership. Even just looking at the numbers set by Part 3, which released in 2023, it achieved the status of one of the most-watched series quickly on the way to a swift renewal. If that distinction holds for Lupin: Part 4, then there may yet be another adventure.

Lupin: Part 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
