BI urges copyright protection for East Nusa Tenggara woven fabric

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti urged stronger copyright protection for East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) woven fabric motifs and works to protect weavers while raising the economic value of local products.
According to a press statement here on Sunday, Damayanti said intellectual property rights protection is important so that local works such as woven fabrics can provide greater economic benefits to the communities that produce them and reach wider markets.
She made the statement at the Flobamorata Creative Expo 2026 in Kupang, NTT, on Saturday (October 3), an exhibition focused on weaving, culinary, and coffee products.
According to her, developing regional flagship products is an important part of building the NTT economy.
She assessed that the diversity of local products, ranging from woven fabrics to coffee and culinary products, holds economic potential that needs to be developed optimally.
Meanwhile, Acting Deputy for Micro Enterprises at the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Ministry Reghi Perdana said production capacity growth for MSMEs must go hand in hand with reading consumer needs.
"We want MSMEs not only to be able to produce, but also to read market needs, produce quality products, and be connected to supply chains. For that reason, market access must be an important part of MSME development," Perdana said.
According to him, opening access to buyers, financing, export markets, and supply chains is needed so that improved product quality can lead to transactions and business growth.
He stated that strengthening MSMEs is not enough simply by increasing production capacity, but also requires ensuring that the products created have market access and can meet consumer needs.
Through collaboration among the central government, regional governments, Bank Indonesia, banks, the business sector, and various stakeholders, the ministry expressed hope that more NTT MSME products can meet consumer standards and needs, enter wider supply chains, and be competitive in national and global markets.
