New York marathon 2026: Finishing times of ex-Premier League star and other celebrities

The Big Apple race is one of the closest global competitors to the London marathon, with almost 60,000 running last year’s event in the UK capital.

The New York event takes place annually on the first Sunday of November, attracting more than two million spectators.

At least a fifth of runners are said to come from outside the US to take part in it.

The marathon route takes in all five boroughs of New York City. The course starts at Staten Island, where runners cross the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to Brooklyn.

They run north to Queens to get to the Queensboro Bridge, which they use to head into Manhattan, the main island that makes up the city centre.

They head north towards The Bronx, where the thousands of runner turn to head back south through Harlem and Central Park, where they finish the 26.2-mile course.

Here are the times for some of the most well-known names that took part in the Stateside marathon:

• James Milner, former Premier League footballer who played for Liverpool, Manchester City among others (3 hours 9 minutes)
• Jordan Litz, American actor currently playing Fiyero in the West End production of Wicked (3 hrs 13 mins)
• Jennifer Connelly, won best supporting actress Academy Award for part in A Beautiful Mind (3 hrs, 40 minutes)
• William Goodge, British endurance athlete who capped off a “Mission America”, a bid to run 50 marathons in all 50 US states in 24 days (4 hrs 5 mins)
• Darby Allin, American wrestler with All Elite Wrestling (5 hrs 34 mins)
• Chloe Lukasiak, who appeared in reality show Dance Moms (5 hrs 35 mins)
