League Cup: Dowman brace helps Arsenal ease past Ipswich; Liverpool beats Tottenham

Arsenal rode on 16-year-old Max Dowman’s brace to beat Ipswich Town 4-2 in a League Cup victory to progress to the fourth round while Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield.

It took just seven minutes for Dowman to get on the scoresheet for the Premier League champion, and he added the third goal shortly after half-time.

Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also scored for Arsenal. Ipswich fought back late through goals from Anis Mehmeti and ​Chuba Akpom to salvage some pride.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s disastrous start to the season continued against Liverpool despite fielding a strong line-up. The opponent made 10 changes to its starting eleven from the weekend.

Alexis Mac Allister’s found the top corner to put Liverpool ahead, and Cody Gakpo made it 2-0 in the 54th minute.

Conor Gallagher pulled one back with a header — Tottenham’s first goal scored this season — but Dominik Szoboszlai wrapped ‌up the win with a goal from outside the box.

Fulham won a five-goal thriller at second-tier West Ham United with Oscar Bobb scoring his first goal for the club, while Brentford also progressed with a 2-1 win over Reading.
