True Brit Entertainment, UK Film Distributor Founded By Zygi Kamasa, Files For Administration

EXCLUSIVE: True Brit Entertainment, the UK theatrical distributor founded by former Lionsgate executive Zygi Kamasa, has effectively filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Deadline understands that True Brit, which has distributed titles including Hugh Jackman’s The Death of Robin Hood, has appointed administrators at Simons Muirhead Burton to oversee the company’s affairs.

True Brit launched in 2023 with backing from Three Six Zero, the talent management and entertainment company that has repped stars including Calvin Klein and FKA Twigs. Marv Studios, co-founded by Matthew Vaughn, also has a stake in True Brit.

Launched with an ambition to focus exclusively on British feature films and TV, True Brit has distributed titles including Giant, Marching Powder, and Sunny Dancer.

In a statement shared with Deadline, Kamasa said: “In extremely challenging market conditions, the company has taken the difficult decision to enter administration.

“An independent specialist has now been appointed to oversee the company and assess the options available, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for the company and its creditors.”

The UK administration process is similar to Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but unlike in the U.S., where directors remain in control of the business, Simons Muirhead Burton will take charge of True Brit’s operations and attempt to restructure the company financially so it can pay creditors.

Kamasa has previously served as Lionsgate UK and Europe’s CEO and Marv Studios Group CEO. He has worked on the release of more than 40 British titles, including Bend It Like Beckham, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Brooklyn, Eddie the Eagle, and The Father.
