Checking in live from Docklands

Hello everyone!

I've settled in at Docklands and I've got an eye on all of the entrances and exits as we get set for the trade embargo.

I'll keep you guys posted on who arrives, who departs, who talks to who and everything else in between.

I'm your eyes on the ground this afternoon/evening.

Let's get things cracking shall we?

Richmond secures trade for Port Adelaide's pick five

The Tigers have been considered the front-runner for this pick for the past few days, and the deal will go through this afternoon.

But boy, they've had to pay a big price for it. Seems like a potential bidding war has forced Richmond into coughing up more than expected for a prized selection in this year's draft.

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reports that Richmond will send Port Adelaide its 2027 first-round pick, its 2027-second round pick, its 2027 fourth-round pick and pick 22 this year for pick five.

FOUR picks. One first-rounder, which could be as high as pick two next year. Two second-rounders, including pick 22 in a very nice spot next year. All to get the Tigers a second selection in the top five this year.

We can talk about what this might mean for Richmond's draft strategy this year, but they've seen an opportunity and gone for it. It's a bold, brave and admirable play.

The current deals we are watching for on deadline day

First of all, there has been a lockout on trades being completed today which is lifted at 2pm AEDT.

Here are the eight players that we know are chasing trades still today. But you absolutely shouldn't count out late surprises, you never know what might happen on deadline day.

  • Keidean Coleman to Essendon. Kiddy wants to be a Bomber in the last hours of the trade period. The Lions want as strong a pick as they can get.
  • Nick Murray to North Melbourne. The Crows want picks this year, North are offering futures. A tricky one.
  • Jack Viney to West Coast. Eagles want to pay a late pick, Demons want to create a package deal for pick 23.
  • Trent Rivers to West Coast. As above. Eagles have wanted to hold pick 23. Lots to play out with these Melbourne-West Coast negotiations.
  • Josh Goater to Hawthorn. Hard to see this one not going through relatively easily.
  • Jayden Short to Collingwood. The Pies aren't confident anything will happen here. But there's still time.
  • Luke Pedlar to Port Adelaide. The Power have been a bit preoccupied, but this should happen now.
  • Will McLachlan to Melbourne. Requested a move to the Dees, Lions asking for quite a lot really.

Welcome to AFL trade period deadline day

By Dean Bilton

We've made it! The final few hours of the 2026 AFL trade period, in which everything must get done, everything MUST go before the window slams shut at 7.30pm AEDT.

There are still players anxiously hanging by their phones waiting to find out where they will be playing next year and beyond. Clubs are fighting and haggling over every last detail of these moves. List managers will converge on Docklands Stadium so they can go head-to-head in person... and we've got Chris De Silva in the building ready to get involved, or at the very least keep his eye on all the goings on.

Going to be a big afternoon! Hit up the comments with your thoughts and questions, let's do it.
