Angel Studios Banning Sex Scenes, F-Words and Misuse of God’s Name in Movies

Angel Studios is introducing a broad new content policy that bans on-screen sex, nudity, F-words and misusing the name of God. The studio, known for films such as the hit “Sound of Freedom,” will also give its paying members a chance to vote on movies and TV shows to ensure that a majority of members approve of the content.

Angel’s co-founder and chief content officer Jeff Harmon announced “The Angel Promise” in a Fox News interview Thursday, explaining why the studio is taking the strong approach. “I think Hollywood generally kind of lives in a bubble. These are excellent craftsmen. They’re the best storytellers in the world. Hollywood has built the best storytelling infrastructure in the world. But at the same time, they’ve kind of drifted more and more away from the values-based audience that they used to serve.”

The new policy introduces three commitments from Angel regarding audience approval of content, strict standards for sex and language and expanded parental controls.

“We promise there’s never going to be nudity, and there’ll never be sex on screen,” Harmon said in the video, explaining that Angel is a “faith-friendly studio.”

“No sex acts on screen — ever” reads the pledge on the Angel Studios website, “No F words. And no profanity in titles submitted for young kids (12 and under). Angel will not release original films or series that misuse God’s name.”

Harmon says the Angel Guild numbers approximately 3 million paying members. The new policy requires that films and television series receive a score of at least 70 out of 100 from members to be included in Angel’s programming.

“This is the first time in history that a major Hollywood studio, or top 10 studio in the United States, has come and said, we’re going to let the audience have a veto right,” Harmon told Fox.

Angel Studios releases include “Runner, “Young Washington” and “David.” Upcoming titles include “Drummer Boy,” “Angel and the Badman” and “Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ.”
