Unhealthy air quality spreads to 36 areas overnight

Haze conditions in the country worsened overnight, with unhealthy air quality reported in 33 areas this moroning, particularly across the southern and central peninsula.
Johan Setia in Selangor registered the highest air pollutant index (API) reading of 191 as of 10am, followed by Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, both at 189.
Johor remained among the worst-hit states, with unhealthy readings in Batu Pahat (188), Segamat (177), Pasir Gudang (174), Tangkak (169), Larkin (167), Pengerang (165), Kota Tinggi (164) and Kluang (161).
In the other parts of the Klang Valley, Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 180, followed by Batu Muda (177), Petaling Jaya (176) and Klang (170). Banting also recorded an unhealthy reading of 176, while Putrajaya’s API reading stood at 187.
In other parts of Negeri Sembilan, Nilai recorded 189, while Seremban recorded 180 and Port Dickson 169.
Melaka recorded unhealthy readings of 175 in Bukit Rambai, 174 in Bandaraya Melaka and 173 in Alor Gajah.
On the east coast, Pahang recorded unhealthy readings in Temerloh (169), Indera Mahkota Kuantan (160), Rompin (159), Jerantut (158) and Balok Baru Kuantan (155).
In Terengganu, Paka and Kemaman recorded 156 and 155 respectively, while Kuala Terengganu recorded 125.
Perak recorded unhealthy readings in Tanjung Malim (154), Tasek Ipoh (152) and Pegoh Ipoh (121).
In East Malaysia, Tawau in Sabah recorded 155, while IPD Serian and Kuching in Sarawak recorded 152 and 106 respectively.
API readings of between zero and 50 are categorised as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and 301 and above as hazardous.
