The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old suspected serial mobile phone thief, identified as Ifeanyi Obi, in connection with multiple cases of mobile phone theft at hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu communities in the state.

In a statement released on Monday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Sunday by operatives attached to the Amanuke Police Division.

Ikenga added that the arrest followed investigations into reported cases of mobile phone theft and a review of video surveillance footage allegedly linking the suspect to the incidents.

He added that, during interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.

The statement read, “The suspect was arrested in the early hours of October 25, 2026 by operatives attached to the Amanuke Police Division, following investigations into reported cases of mobile phone theft and the review of video surveillance footage allegedly linking him to the incidents.

“During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.

“The Command has commenced further investigations to recover the stolen phones, establish the full extent of the alleged offences and identify any other persons who may be connected to the incidents.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Ama, has reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The CP urged hotel operators, business owners and members of the public to strengthen their security measures, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“The Command assures the public that investigations will be pursued diligently and that further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” he added.
