Three people in two cars sustained minor injuries in a crash after one of the vehicles collided with an elephant at KM160 of Jalan Jerangau-Jabor near the Jabor plantation here last night.

Kemaman police chief Razi Rosli said the incident occurred at 7.58pm as a Perodua Ativa driven by Amirul Afiq Aazmi, 29, with his wife, Farhain Jolius, 23, as a passenger, was heading from Jerangau towards Jabor.

“As they reached the scene, an elephant began crossing the road. The driver was unable to brake in time due to the animal’s close proximity and collided with it,” he said in a statement today.

He said a Perodua Myvi driven by Wan Muhammad Faiz Fakhrullah Wan Muhammad Zainal, 31, which was travelling behind the Ativa, subsequently crashed into its rear.

Amirul Afiq sustained a minor injury to his hand while Farhain suffered minor injuries to her leg and chest. Wan Muhammad Faiz Fakhrullah sustained a minor knee injury.

All three were treated in the green zone at Kemaman Hospital.

Razi said police had obtained dashcam footage of the incident to assist investigations under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1980.
