3 out of 4 communications services stocks deliver EPS wins this week: Earnings Scorecard

Translate

Communications services stocks grabbed the spotlight this week as Wall Street digested earnings reports from major names, including Alphabet (GOOG) and Verizon (VZ).

The communications services sector (XLC) lost over 14% so far this year, compared to the nearly 13% rise in the broader S&P 500 Index.

In this week's earnings recap, four tickers reported results, all of which three reported earnings beats. On the revenue side, two companies exceeded revenue expectations, while two companies trailed estimates.

Below are the latest quarterly reports from some key players, which reported results this week:

Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) closed over 12% lower on Thursday following the tech giant’s release of the company's third-quarter financial results, which marked its first quarterly earnings miss since Q4 2022. Q3 earnings trailed Wall Street estimates, despite a more than doubling of Google Cloud revenue as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and services surged.

Verizon Communications (VZ) reported third-quarter revenue and adjusted earnings above analysts’ estimates, as well as stronger subscriber additions and higher margins that helped the telecom company lift its full-year 2026 guidance for a third consecutive quarter.

T-Mobile (TMUS) increased the number of new customers and saw higher average revenue per account (ARPA) leading to a 7.4% increase in third-quarter revenue and a 34% improvement in earnings, both of which beat Wall Street’s expectations.

For the upcoming week, Charter Communications (CHTR), Live Nation Entertainment (LYV), Fox (FOX), and News Corp (NWSA) are some communication services names that are scheduled to report quarterly results.
