BBC's "chaotic" Dublin-set sitcom to return for new season with brand-new cast announced

Translate

The BBC has announced the return of The Walsh Sisters, the Dublin-set comedy following the antics of five "chaotic, dysfunctional, but deeply loveable" siblings and their parents.

Not only have plot details for season 2 been announced, but the broadcaster has also confirmed the names of new cast members joining the show, including a familiar face from classic drama Cold Feet.

The show is an adaptation of Marian Keyes' series of novels, with season 1 using Rachel's Holiday and Anybody Out There? as source material, while season 2 will be adapting The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels.

The synopsis for season 2 explains that the new episodes will focus on Rachel stepping outside of the family bubble to navigate her recovery, although a chance encounter with someone she knows might make that more difficult she hoped.

Meanwhile, Claire attempts to defy the traditional expectations of her as a mother, Anna tries to get over her heartbreak in some unusual ways, Maggie finds her plan to create the perfect family takes an unexpected turn, while Helen struggles with her emotional wellbeing, which leads to her becoming incredibly overprotective of her sisters.

Of course, this seems to all go over the head of Daddy Walsh, who is totally focused on his aim of joining the local amateur dramatic musical.

Unsurprisingly, Mammy Walsh finds that incredibly annoying.

Lead cast members Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner, Louisa Harland, Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley are all back, while Preissner continues as creative lead and writer.

The new actors joining the show are Peaky Blinders' Peter Coonan, Normal People's Aislín McGuckin, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast's Art Campion, and Cold Feet's Fay Ripley.

We don't have a release date for season 2 yet. Season 1 aired in September 2025 in Ireland on RTÉ and in February of this year on BBC One elsewhere. Let's hope there isn't that much of a gap this time around.
