Police give update on woman who used own daughter for pornography

The police in Anambra State have provided a fresh update on Anulika Onyeanusia, the 36-year-old woman arrested for using a sex toy on her eight-year-old daughter in the state.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that the police in Anambra State arrested Mrs Onyeanusia on 11 September over the incident.

The suspect, according to the police, was under investigation for child pornography.

The couple lives in Onitsha where police operatives recovered sex toys and other unnamed items from the suspect which would assist in the ongoing investigation.

Police said they also rescued four children, aged two, three, six and nine years from the suspect.

This newspaper earlier reported that the suspect’s husband, Ikechukwu Onyeanusia, said he was not aware that his wife was sexually molesting their children.

Mrs Onyeanusia later admitted that she had earned $700 from posting her children’s pornographic video on social media.

The case had caused public outrage, with many Nigerians for serious investigations into the incident.

Fresh update

In a statement on Thursday, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the state police command concluded its investigations into the case.

“The Command has investigated the case and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action,” said Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, pending further proceedings,” he added.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has reiterated the command’s commitment to protect children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation, violence and other forms of harm.

Mr Ama assured that the command would continue to ensure that victims and survivors of sexual assault in the state were treated with dignity, sensitivity and appropriate protection throughout “the investigative and legal process.”
