Here are the rules for the 12-team playoff: The field will consist of the four power conference champions plus the highest ranked Group of 6 team - as ranked by the CFP committee - as well as the next seven highest ranked at-large schools. Notre Dame is guaranteed a spot if ranked in the top 12. The first round will consist of the eight teams seeded 5 through 12 and will be played at the home of the higher seed. The four first-round winners will advance to play the top four seeds in the quarterfinal round. Both the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at the former New Year's Six bowl sites. The quarterfinal games following the 2026 season will be at the Fiesta (Dec. 30), Cotton (Jan. 1), Rose (Jan. 1) and Peach (Jan. 1) bowls, while the semifinals will be at the Orange (Jan. 14) and Sugar (Jan. 15) bowls. The CFP National Championship rotates sites and will be in Las Vegas this year (Jan. 25). The Sugar Bowl and National Championship Game will be on ABC.
