The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued an 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, from an angry mob after she allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband during a dispute over her belongings in Dass Local Government Area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred at about 6am on Sunday, in Lirr Bajar, when a disagreement over money, wrappers and a phone reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, Dalha confronted her husband over the items, which she claimed were in his possession, before the argument degenerated into a fight.

“In a moment of rage and desperation, Fatima reached for a knife lying close by and stabbed her husband in the stomach,” the statement said.

The police said the injured man was rushed to a hospital, where he was receiving treatment, while operatives from the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters rescued the suspect from an angry mob that had gathered at the scene and threatened to lynch her.

The statement added that the suspect had been detained and the knife used in the attack recovered.

The case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged spouses to seek peaceful ways of resolving disagreements.

“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means, through family, elders and lawful channels, instead of resorting to violence,” the CP advised.

He also warned against jungle justice and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that justice was served professionally and humanely.

PUNCH Metro reported a similar incident in 2025 when a 25-year-old woman, Salamatu Danjuma, was arrested over the death of her husband following a domestic dispute in Nadabo village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The police said the couple had been experiencing marital challenges over the custody of Salamatu’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

According to a preliminary report, the dispute escalated, and the suspect allegedly used a knife from their bedroom to fatally stab her husband.
