Asian Games 2026, Day 9: Indian results on September 27 — How many medals did India win?

ARCHERY

India progressed to the semifinal of five events at the archery competitions on Sunday.

India’s compound women’s team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep and Jyoti Surekha Vennam beat Kazakhstan 233-230 in the quarterfinal after beating Mongolia 238-223 in the 1/8 final.

Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Thirumuru helped the compound men’s team beat Bhutan 235-232 in the quarters after a 235-215 win over UAE in the first round.

The mixed team comprising Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav beat Kazakhstan 159-154 in the final eight round. Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara also progressed to the recurve mixed team quarters with a 6-0 win over Vietnam.

Dhiraj joined hands with Sanjay Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan to beat China 5-1 in the recurve men’s team quarterfinal. Kumkum, Ankita Bhakat and Kirti also reached the final eight with a 6-0 win over Chinese Taipei.

ATHLETICS

India’s day began with Maju Rani finishing sixth in the Women’s Marathon Race Walk, while Priyanka was disqualified from the event.

Tejaswin Shankar (7934) bagged a bronze medal in the Men’s Decathlon. The points he made up against Japan’s Yuma Maruyama (8123) and China’s Xinghua Chen (8012) in the javelin throw and 1500m wasn’t enough to eclipse their points total.

Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan qualified directly for the final of the men’s 400m hurdles (49.61). Yashas Palaksha did not complete the race.

Vithya Ramraj (55.73) and Anu Raghavan (55.84) qualified for the final of the women’s 400m hurdles after finishing second in their respective heats .

In the men’s long jump, David Patturaj (7.62m) and Murali Sreeshankar (7.84m) qualified for the final after finishing second in Group A and B respectively.

Ancy Sojan had to settle for silver in the women’s long jump after China’s Yingying Huang usurped her 6.53m mark on the final attempt. Shaili Singh finished fourth with a jump of 6.42.

Harita Bhadra earned a surprise bronze for India in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.20. Unnathi Bolland finished sixth (23.46).

Animesh Kujur clocked 20.80 to finish fifth in the men’s 200m final, which saw Thailand’s Puripol Boonson tie the Asian record with 19.88.

Sarvesh Kushare bagged a silver in the men’s high jump with a 2.25m clearance, finishing behind Chinese Taipei’s Chao-hsuan Fu only on countback.

Nandhini Kongan finished sixth in the women’s 100m hurdles final with a time of 13.45.

Mohammed Afsal finished third in his 800m heat and indirectly qualified for the final with a time of 1:47.37. Krishan Kumar (1:50.38) failed to progress.

Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a PB of 9:08.67. Ankita also registered a PB (9:19.24) but had to settle for fourth.

In the women’s 4x100m relay final, the Indian quartet of Tamanna, Sneha SS, Abhinaya Rajarajan and Sudeshna Shivankar registered a Season Best time of 43.85 to finish first in the heats and qualify for the final.

BADMINTON

Indian shuttlers had a tough day at the office. All six contenders lost their respective matches, bringing to an end India’s campaign in the singles and doubles events.

Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost 0-2 (18-21, 9-21) to Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan in the women’s doubles quarterfinal.

Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost 1-2 (14-21, 21-18, 18-21) to China’s Yan Zhe Feng and Dongping Huang in the mixed doubles final eight.

Unnati Hooda and P.V. Sindhu lost their respective women’s singles quarterfinal matches to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi (16-21, 21-14, 17-21) and China’s Yu Fei Chen (11-21, 21-18, 10-21).

BOXING

Indian pugilists Ankush, Parveen and Narender confirmed at least a bronze medal after qualifying for the semifinal. Sachin Siwach lost to Japan’s Shunsuke Kitamoto in the men’s 60kg quarterfinal.

KURASH

All four Indian participants lost their respective bouts.

Sangita lost to Philippines’ Charmea Quelino 0-10 in the women’s 57kg round of 32, while compatriot Bharti lost to Iran’s Tahereh Azarpeivand 0-3 in the round of 16 clash of the same category.

In the men’s 90kg, Yash Kumar Chauhan lost 0-10 to Tajikistan’s Shakarmamad Mirmamadov in the round of 16, while Vishal lost to Thailand’s Kunathip Yea-on 0-5.

EQUESTRIAN

India’s Hriday Vipul Chheda and Jai Sud finished 8th and 9th, respectively, in the dressage individual final. Hriday scored 72.680 while Jai tallied 71.490.

Dongheon Nam of South Korea won gold with a score of 75.190.

FENCING

The Indian Women’s Sabre team, comprising Jefarlin Jani Simla, S. Bhavani Devi and Shreya Gupta, beat Indonesia 45-23 in the Table of 16.

But the trio went down 35-45 to Uzbekistan in the quarterfinal.

HOCKEY

The Indian women’s hockey team sealed the top spot in Pool B with a 7-0 win over Singapore, with Sunelita Toppo scoring a brace.

SEPAKTAKRAW

The Indian women’s team lost both its Women’s Double Group B matches against South Korea and the Philippines, 0-2. It is currently placed bottom of the group.

SHOOTING

India’s Esha Singh is currently placed sixth after the Precision stage of the Women’s 25m pistol with a score of 290 with 9 bullseyes.

Rani Sarnobat and Manu Bhaker only finished 15th and 16th, with a total of 287 and six bullseyes. India is currently placed third in the team’s standings ahead of the Rapid stage.

In the men’s trap event, India is placed 7th at the end of Day 1. Kynan Chenai is placed 11th, Shapath Bharadwaj 22nd and Ahvar Rizvi 35th.

The women’s team is placed second behind China after the first day. Neeru is top with 48 points, Aashima Ahlawat 16th and Manisha Keer 24th.

SQUASH

Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh had to settle for silver medals after losing their respective finals to Malaysian opposition in the men’s and women’s singles finals.

SURFING

India’s Kamali Prakash and Sugar Shanti Gayen were beaten in Round 3 of the Women’s Shortboard after posting wins in the previous round.

Sivaraj Babu beat Iran’s David Khadir in Round 2 of the Men’s Shortboard.

VOLLEYBALL

The Indian men’s volleyball team began its Asian Games campaign with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) win over Vietnam in its Pool C encounter.

WEIGHTLIFTING

India’s Harjinder Kaur recorded a total lift of 204kg (94kg snatch and 110kg clean and jerk) to finish ninth in the Women’s 69kg final.
