The Legend of Zelda Returns With New 80-Hour 2D Adventure

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

With The Legend of Zelda franchise celebrating its 40th anniversary, there has never been a better time to be a fan of the beloved Nintendo series. First bursting onto the scene way back in 1986 for the Famicom Disk, The Legend of Zelda kickstarted an action-adventure series that would dominate the gaming landscape for years to come, and now, in 2026, it is as popular as ever.

At the time of writing, the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is just days away from arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2, but if you cannot wait until then, there is another way to immerse yourself in the fantasy world courtesy of a new 80-hour 2D adventure.

The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster is a free-to-play fan-made game created by Tabletpillow on PureZC. Returning Link as our protagonist, the brand-new adventure offers a new story to explore, as well as bringing between 50-80 hours of never-before-seen content to The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Complete with a pixel-art style reminiscent of classic entries, The Rosemaster contains "non-subtle political undertones" and "mature elements despite the tone of the game being mostly comedic," and, as such, they would not recommend it to any players uncomfortable with those topics, especially children. However, with the inclusion of puzzles, dungeons, and plenty of exploration to be had, it has all the makings of an official Zelda title, albeit without having to deal with the expensive price tag.

If you are still not convinced, Tabletpillow has provided a full list of features for The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster:

- Engaging stories and dynamic cutscenes scattered throughout the quest.

- Explore your adventure with Link alongside four other major characters that will be developed throughout the story.

- Dungeons and explorations will be plenty. Explore and find powerful items to add to your arsenal as rewards.

- Explore large sprawling dungeons that will test your combat and puzzle-solving abilities.

- Difficulty slider that allows you to choose between three difficulties at anytime in your subscreen.

- Costumes that you can switch on your subscreen.

Not only that, but a story synopsis for The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster has also been provided, and it sounds as though Link has got his work cut out once again.

Many years ago, Hyrule and its neighboring kingdom, Elignita, fought a long war. The war ended in a ten year ceasefire agreement, but as the treaty came to an end, that is when the story of the ROSEMASTER begins.

The current Elignitan leader, Tsarina Ingrid, had planned for her kingdom to develop a powerful weapon known as the ROSEMASTER. This weapon would be enough to destroy Hyrule, as the time nears for the two nations to fight once again, she orders her army to search for the rose fragments needed to form the powerful weapon.

Link, an Elignitan soldier, loyally follows her orders and searches for the Red Rose with his superior officer, Lotz Fitzgerald.

Available to download for free now, The Legend of Zelda: The Rosemaster may just be the Zelda entry we have all been waiting for, especially for fans who have wanted to return to the style of the more classic entries.
