KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Fourteen official visits and trade and investment missions led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani were carried out through the country’s trade and investment agencies from 2025 to September 2026.

Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) said the missions were undertaken through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), generating potential investments of RM59.5 billion.

Of the total potential investments, RM14.2 billion have been approved, and the remaining RM45.3 billion are at various stages of negotiation and are being continuously followed up, Miti added.

“On the breakdown of realised investments, a project typically takes between 18 and 24 months to materialise, depending on its scale and complexity and prevailing economic conditions,” Miti said in a written Dewan Rakyat reply yesterday.

It added that MIDA would continue its follow-up efforts, monitoring and facilitation to ensure that identified investment opportunities are translated into actual project implementation.

On the trade front, Miti said official visits to countries including Kenya, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Türkiye, Japan, Italy, France, South Korea, China, Thailand, India and Russia had yielded positive results, generating RM6.77 billion in exports through high-level engagements.

“In addition, Matrade continues to diversify its export promotion efforts into new markets in Central Asia, Africa and Latin America. From January to September 2026, these three regions collectively recorded a 23.06 per cent rise in exports to RM69.84 billion,” Miti said.

It added that markets which recorded double-digit growth included Namibia (up 426.1 per cent), Angola (55.6 per cent), Brazil (41.0 per cent), Tanzania (35.9 per cent), Ethiopia (28.5 per cent) and Kenya (11.6 per cent). — Bernama
