Cult Classic Bomb Is Officially Releasing On Streaming For The First Time Ever After New Bob Odenkirk Remake

Tubi is about to become the first-ever streaming home for an infamous cult classic.

Netflix's shift to streaming led to a boom in multiple other platforms launching and spawning the so-called streaming wars, with studios forging deals to give audiences ways to watch some of their biggest movies. Even still, a wide variety of films have yet to be made available online, including Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca adaptation, Dustin Hoffman's controversial vigilante thriller Straw Dogs and David Lynch's Wild at Heart, among many others. Now, Tubi is rectifying one major absence.

Tommy Wiseau's The Room Is Finally Making Its Streaming Premiere 23 Years Later

Written and directed by Tommy Wiseau, The Room remains one of the most infamous films of all-time, thanks to everything from Wiseau's controlling on-set behavior and self-funding to its passionate cult following stemming from its lackluster elements. Even more so is the fact that the film wasn't available on streaming, reportedly due to Wiseau finding various deals made by platforms to be unsatisfactory for his wants.

On the heels of the film's 23rd anniversary, Tubi has announced that The Room will be making its first-ever streaming debut on the free platform, beginning September 4. In addition to the cult classic critical bomb, the streamer will also be adding Wiseau's latest directorial effort, the shark horror-comedy Big Shark, on the same date, similarly giving it its proper streaming debut three years after its initial 2023 debut.

The Room Making Its Streaming Debut Comes At The Perfect Time

The announcement that The Room will officially be making its first-ever streaming debut on Tubi is sure to be a mix of both excitement and surprise for those in the film's passionate cult following. As previously noted, Wiseau has been very protective of the movie's wider availability, reportedly turning down offers from Netflix, and pulling it down from YouTube the following day. Additionally, though it has scored DVD and Blu-ray printings, The Room remains a challenging film to track down physically.

Even still, the 23-year wait for The Room's streaming premiere is looking to be very worth it. Not only is it being joined by Wiseau's second narrative directorial feature in Big Shark, but just before both of their arrivals, Tubi will be welcoming The Disaster Artist to its library on September 1.

Directed by and starring James Franco as Wiseau, the 2017 film served as an adaptation of Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell's non-fiction novel chronicling the movie's troubled production, and the former's friendship with the filmmaker. The A24 production was a critical and commercial smash, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, while Franco also won the Golden Globe for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

Moreover, The Room's streaming premiere comes on the heels of Bob Odenkirk and Brando Crawford's shot-for-shot remake finally getting its debut screening in Los Angeles in June 2026. Should the long-awaited streaming premieres turn out big viewership for Tubi, it will be interesting to see if they not only look to expand their partnership with Wiseau beyond September, but also try to become the home for The Room Returns! at some point in the future.
