WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup: Busari Commends Flamingos’ Tactical Approach In Burkina Faso Win

Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has praised his side’s patience after Nigeria secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup, Completesports.com reports.

Busari’s side secured their third consecutive win in the competition on Monday, maintaining their perfect record with nine points from three matches.

Nigeria dominated possession and created several opportunities early in the game but struggled to break down a well-organised Burkinabe defence.

Mary Dunstan finally broke the deadlock eight minutes from full time, before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi sealed the victory in stoppage time with Nigeria’s second goal.

Busari Delighted With Win

Speaking after the match, Busari explained that Burkina Faso’s defensive approach made it difficult for his players to find space and convert their early opportunities.

“Burkina Faso were going to sit back and rely on the tactics they wanted to use in the game. Coincidentally, we were having the chances, but we could not convert them in the early minutes of the first half. That would have changed the game and the goal margin of our chances,” Busari told the media.

“The tactics Burkina Faso tried to use against us made it a difficult game. We just had to be patient because we are dealing with young players.

“Some of the chances required them to play with calmness, but they were eventually wasted. The chances were being wasted and the tactics were working for the opponent until we got the difference of one goal.

“Then they needed to come out, and we could now play.”
