In Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger!, Doctor Who star Tennant plays anxious primary school teacher Donald Peterson, who finds himself caught up in Christmas chaos after joining St Bernadette's School.
When his enthusiastic teaching assistant Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton) decides the children should enter a national singing competition, Donald is reluctantly dragged along for the ride.
What follows is a madcap adventure involving a busload of schoolchildren, a heavily pregnant donkey and a journey to Wales, where Donald must also contend with his competitive twin brother Roderick, also played by Tennant.
Watkins stars as the school's headteacher, Mr Shakespeare, alongside Joanna Page, Jessica Hynes and Pam Ferris.
The film has won over viewers with its distinctly British humour and heartwarming festive spirit.

One IMDb reviewer described it as "charming and hilarious", admitting they had initially watched it because there was nothing else on television.
However, they ended up loving the film, writing: "My sides hurt from laughing."
They added that the comedy was a great choice for families looking for some Christmas silliness, particularly those who enjoy stories revolving around singing competitions.
The sequel is joined on iPlayer by the original Nativity!, starring Martin Freeman, as well as Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey? and Nativity Rocks!

The films form part of the BBC's newly expanded Christmas collection, which also includes festive favourites Last Christmas, Bridget Jones's Diary, Office Christmas Party and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
The broadcaster is also bringing back a selection of classic Christmas specials from its archives, spanning comedy, drama, cookery and natural history.
All four Nativity! films are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
