Strictly Come Dancing confirms historic format twist for next week - and it's bad news for the couples

Sunday night’s results show resulted in a tense face-off between former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and his dance partner Alexis Warr and actress Jaime Winstone with her Strictly pro Carlos Gu.

However, it was Shaun and Alexis that were sent packing, after the judges chose to save Jaime and Carlos with only head judge Shirley Ballas being in the underdog’s corner.

But despite an intense dance-off between the two couples, something else was in-store for the cast of Strictly Come Dancing 2026, and it’s not something pleasant.

For the first time in Strictly Come Dancing history, it was announced that next week’s Halloween results show will feature a triple dance-off in a historic twist for the series.

This means that three couples with the lowest combined scores from the judges and public votes will go head-to-head against one another, before the judges have their final say over who will be eliminated from the show.

After the Halloween results show, the series will return to a regular two couple dance-off in the weeks that follow.

Whether or not this will become a reoccurring event in the show’s format is unknown, however, considering that this surprise shift is for the Halloween special, it makes sense that the stakes are even higher in what will surely be a spooktacular episode.

Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6:30pm on Saturday 31 October on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
