Someone in South Africa just had their Friday night change forever

Friday, 21 August’s PowerBall draw carried a jackpot that had been building for weeks, and this time, someone actually walked away with it.

The numbers that changed everything

The winning PowerBall numbers drawn on Friday were 02, 04, 05, 24, 49, plus PowerBall 04.

A single ticket matched all six, taking home the full Division 1 jackpot of R93 523 480.

The PowerBall Xtra draw, run on the same numbers, wasn’t as kind to anyone chasing the top prize: 17, 23, 37, 39, 48, plus PowerBall 02, produced no Xtra jackpot winner, meaning that prize rolls over to the next draw.

A big night beyond just the jackpot too

The jackpot wasn’t the only win on the board.

Fourteen players matched three main numbers plus the PowerBall, each pocketing R17 880.40, while thousands more walked away with smaller prizes across the remaining divisions.

Altogether, more than 186 000 players won something from Friday’s draw, with the jackpot itself accounting for the vast majority of the money paid out.
