Haze eases as Langkawi, Balik Pulau record healthy API readings

KUALA LUMPUR: Haze conditions showed significant improvement today, with Langkawi and Balik Pulau recording healthy air pollutant index (API) readings.

Langkawi, Kedah, recorded an API reading of 36, while Balik Pulau, Penang, registered 28.

This was an improvement from yesterday, when no locations nationwide recorded healthy API readings.

The Department of Environment's (DoE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal also reported a drop in the number of locations with unhealthy API readings to 19, from 33 yesterday.

Johor remained the state with the highest number of locations recording unhealthy readings, with Pasir Gudang at 183, Larkin (180), Tangkak (168), Kota Tinggi (167), Segamat (165), Pengerang (162), Kluang (160) and Batu Pahat (154).

In Kuala Lumpur, Cheras and Batu Muda recorded API readings of 161 and 113, respectively, while Tasek Ipoh, Perak, registered 150.

In Pahang, Balok Baru and Rompin recorded readings of 158 and 156, respectively. In Terengganu, Kemaman registered 155, Kuala Terengganu (152) and Paka (104).

Bandaraya Melaka and Bukit Rambai in Melaka recorded readings of 152 and 151, respectively.

Meanwhile, 47 locations nationwide recorded moderate API readings, including Indera Mahkota (99), Samalaju (98), Port Dickson and Miri (96), as well as Tanjung Malim and Seremban (95).

The APIMS portal reported no locations recording very unhealthy or hazardous API readings.
