As per Mayo Clinic, myelofibrosis causes scarring in the bone marrow, which makes it hard for the bone marrow to make healthy blood cells.
“My sister May De Castro is bravely battling primary myelofibrosis, a rare type of bone affliction and facing an incredibly difficult fight. And due to this condition, she’s also developed chronic kidney disease,” Karlyn said at the time. “This year, my sister May has been in and out of the hospital several times, with some stays lasting nearly a month before being discharged for only a short time and then admitted again.”
At the time, Karlyn said May had been hospitalized for more than three weeks.
“Her condition is very severe, with major organs functioning at very low levels, and she currently needs dialysis three times a week along with frequent blood and platelet transfusions,” Karlyn said.
