The game’s decisive moment arrived early in the 11th minute, when midfielder Yasin Ayari pounced on a glaring defensive error from Manchester City’s Matheus Nunes. Ayari made no mistake with the opportunity, calmly slotting home what proved to be the only goal of the match.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the final whistle, Hürzeler praised his players’ psychological approach, insisting that unwavering self-belief is essential when competing on the biggest stages against the division’s elite sides.

“It’s important to have this mindset and to spread it around the environment we work in, and belief is key to winning these types of games,” Hürzeler explained.

“Coming here to City, against one of the best teams in the league, is always special. You have to be brilliant at the basics, and everyone was contributing.”

Reflecting on the team’s successful trip north, the German tactician expressed pride in how his squad executed their plan from start to finish.

“From Tuesday, when we travelled, we wanted to have a good four days, enjoy it, and finish strong. Everyone can enjoy this win today,” he added.
