Aryna Sabalenka will face Elena Rybakina in a blockbuster women’s singles final at the US Open in New York on Saturday.
It will be the third Grand Slam final between the two players. While Sabalenka won the first encounter in Melbourne in 2023, Rybakina got redemption at the same venue earlier this year.
The contest takes place a day before Sabalenka is set to officially relinquish the No. 1 ranking to the Kazakh.
Both players are on the verge of creating history. Sabalenka can become only the third woman in the Open Era after Chris Evert (1975-78) and Serena Williams (2012-14) to win three straight US Open titles. If Rybakina wins, she will only be the second Asian woman to become champion after Japan’s Naomi Osaka (2018 & 2020).
