Motorcyclist dies after trying to avoid pedestrian in Hulu Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — A 60-year-old motorcyclist died after he reportedly tried to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road before falling and being run over by a lorry in Hulu Selangor yesterday.

Sinar Harian reported that the incident occurred at about 7pm along Jalan Batang Kali-Ulu Yam, citing Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt M Manimaran.

Manimaran said preliminary investigations found that the victim was believed to have been overtaking a lorry from the right when a pedestrian was crossing the road.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have tried to avoid the pedestrian before losing control and falling from his motorcycle,” he said in a statement today.

The victim was then run over by the lorry, which was driven by a 45-year-old man travelling to Penang to deliver goods.

Manimaran said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.

Police received information about the fatal accident at about 7.30pm through the Traffic Complaints Counter.

He said further investigations were underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Manimaran also urged anyone with information on the incident to contact traffic investigation officer Insp Khairul Salleh Abd Rahman at 03-6064 1222 or any nearby police station to assist investigations.
