Yellowstone spin-off Marshals brings back villain from the past to face Kayce Dutton

Kayce and Cal’s past decisions came back to haunt them in the latest instalment of Marshals – with a long-forgotten enemy re-emerging.

In the latest episode of the Yellowstone spin-off, the US Marshals continued their efforts in catching fugitives, but one leads to intel for a face they’d previously let go.

Rudy Carpenter (Braxton Hale) was last seen back in season 1 episode 4, holding the former Navy SEAL’s Kayce and Cal at gunpoint during their efforts to retrieve long-time problem Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) from a helicopter crash in the mountains.

At the time, he claimed he was a man who had lost everything – including his job, house and wife – so was now living off the land alone.

The pair decided to let Carpenter go to focus on their mission to save the life of Tom and his pilot, Helen – only to have their kindness rewarded with Carpenter shooting at them as they fled the area with Tom in tow.

While Cal wanted to return to take him down, Kayce convinced him not to, but now that decision may cost them.

In the newest episode, Blast Radius, Andrea and Kayce receive intel from one of their arrests about Carpenter, who is now a “top 15 fugitive” on the team’s radar.

Cal is annoyed they let him go when they had the chance, but Kayce is forced to remind him that “choosing to save Tom Weaver's life was their only sin that day”.

Andrea is put in charge of the hunt for Carpenter, and wanting to prove her mettle as a leader, joins forces with Kayce to get information.

Their heavy-handed methods include an awkward confrontation with Carpenter’s ex-wife, Audrey, at a country club and golf course, where she warns he “always has an escape plan” and has no intention of ever setting foot in a prison.

And when the team get a break by discovering footage that shows a farm with field damage that Cal recognises as a bomb testing blast radius.

But things go from bad to worse when they track him down to a barn on the site… only for him to trick them into believing he’s injured, only to set off a bomb.

Now, several team members' lives are hanging in the balance, with a cliffhanger teasing that not everyone will make it out alive from their latest encounter with Carpenter.
