There have been a lot of Star Wars adaptations over the years, but some of the very best in recent times have been the two Jedi games we have played so far. The journey of Cal Kestis from young Padawan who barely survives Order 66 to a fully-fledged, lightsaber-wielding menace is one of the most impressive original stories in the canon, and there are millions of fans waiting to find out exactly how it ends.

We know that the third and final part of the series is on the way, after Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment officially confirmed as much, but beyond that, we haven't really had much in the way of information. Now, a new revelation has emerged that puts forward a very bold timeline, and if it's to be believed, fans could be playing it much sooner than originally expected.

Cal Kestis and BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

As first reported by the Metro, a reliable insider has put forward a claim that Star Wars Jedi 3 will get a full release at some point in 2027, with a reveal before The Game Awards this year. That would certainly be a lot quicker than many were expecting, particularly given the protracted game development cycles we tend to get in the modern era.

The claim comes from FivesWalker, who has previously proved quite accurate in sharing inside information on movies and TV projects. "Yes, Jedi 3 will be next year. Marketing will start to occur sooner than you think. I would bet even before [The Game Awards]," they wrote. "Very exciting time for [Star Wars] games."

There's no doubt that it's a bold claim, but if it does materialize and turns out to be true, then it will come as a welcome blessing for Star Wars fans everywhere. As with all rumors of this ilk, we should treat it with some skepticism until we get official confirmation from the developer or publisher, but it's encouraging that rumors like the one above are starting to emerge.

Jedi Facing Monster in Fate of the Old Republic Trailer Star Wars

That news comes at a time when Star Wars fans arguably have more to look forward to than anyone else, in any genre. The furthest down the road is likely Fate of the Old Republic, a narrative-driven action RPG from Arcanaut Studios, with the project being headed up by veteran game developer Casey Hudson, who is most known for his work on Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.

The fun doesn't stop there though, as Galactic Racer is set to debut this month, allowing us all to jump into our speeders and smash the accelerator for the first time in a long time. Quantic Dream's Eclipse is also still in development, while a full remake of the aforementioned Knights of the Old Republic is coming at some point as well. With all of that in mind, Star Wars fans should be happy for years to come.
