Atasha Muhlach can stand tall as she was able to vindicate herself amid the criticisms when she landed the lead role of Annie Batungbakal in the “Bongga Ka ‘Day” musical, said co-star and veteran stage and screen actor John Lapus.

Speaking to reporters recently, Lapus said the actrtess-TV host was able to prove her naysayers wrong when she gave a great performance even for a first-time stage artist.

“Napakagaling ni Atasha. Lahat ng mga umokray kay Atasha prematurely, na hindi pa napapanood nilait na sya, tapos napanood na, ay nilunok na lahat ng kanilang mga sinabi, napahiya na sila,” said Lapus, who plays the dual role of Tarurit and Tito Tambay in the musical.

Lapus said the early bashings did Muhlach good as she took them as a challenge to better herself to be able to give justice to her role as the pop-culture figure.

“Sa aking palagay mas nakatulong kay atasha ang early bashing sa kanya. Kase yung bata ginalingan. Nag voice lesson, nag extra dance classes,” he said.

Muhlach herself is not giving mind to her critics, focusing instead on her craft not just as na actress but as a performer.

Among the usual complaint againt Muhlach was that she was a “nepo baby” who supposedly only landed the role because of her parents’ connection. She is the daughter of seasoned actor Aga Muhlach and actress-beauty queen Charlene Gonzales. She has a twin brother, Andres, who preceeded her in trying out stage acting in “Bagets The Musical.”

Viva, which manages Atasha’s career, earlier released a video clip of Atasha’s audition to disprove claims that the role merely landed on her lap.

“Bongga Ka ‘Day” is based on the hits of the Manila Sound band Hotdog, and premiered last Sept. 17. It is down on its last week until Oct. 31.
