Anya Taylor-Joy Kidnaps Chris Evans in Netflix’s ‘Sacrifice’ Trailer

Tensions heat up between Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans in the trailer for Netflix‘s Sacrifice.

Director Romain Gavras‘ feature debuts on the streaming service Oct. 16 after premiering at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, John Malkovich and Salma Hayek Pinault round out the cast.

Sacrifice centers on Evans as a fading movie star who attends an environmental gala. Soon, he and two other guests are taken hostage by Joan (Taylor-Joy) and her radical followers, who believe that a volcanic event will cleanse the planet.

“We need only three of you,” Taylor-Joy explains before taking her captors to the volcano. “An extinction event is coming. The mountain of fire is famished, so we must offer you into its magma.”

Gavras (Athena) helmed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Will Arbery (Succession). Producers include Gavras, Robert Walak, Jacob Perlin, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska and Giorgios Karnavas.

Sacrifice premiered at TIFF in September 2025, with Netflix later acquiring domestic rights in May. It currently holds a 37 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

In his review of Sacrifice for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Richard Lawson wrote, “The film is a mess, opaque in its argument and tiring in its effortful weirdness, and yet in its best moments has a hypnotic pull.”

Evans appeared in last year’s Materialists opposite Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, and he is part of the star-studded cast for the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Taylor-Joy led the recent Apple TV series Lucky and can soon be seen in Dune: Part Three, which — like Doomsday — hits theaters Dec. 18.
