WWE's backstage plans are facing fresh questions after new reports pushed back against Shawn Michaels replacing Bruce Prichard in a major creative role. The update also brings some clarity on Prichard's future, while Jacob Fatu has reportedly been involved in filming material for Survivor Series: WarGames. The John Cena Classic is another talking point, with Dave Meltzer sharing details about an original fan-voting idea that WWE apparently dropped. There are also fresh reports surrounding NXT's Halloween Havoc reception and the scheduling of Worlds Collide alongside NXT television.
WWE sources push back on Shawn Michaels replacing Bruce Prichard as creative changes remain uncertain
The earlier claims about Prichard's retirement are now being challenged. He is still expected to step away from regular travel and keep working remotely, potentially while he prepares for neck surgery.
That isn't new ground for him, since he has handled responsibilities from home before, so it's more of a tweak than a clean break.
The wider talk about changes across WWE, NXT, Evolve and WWE ID doesn't look settled either. Those rumored moves were described as “either inaccurate or far from finalized.”
AJ Styles is still expected to get more influence over the scouting department. Bobby Roode is also being considered for a position similar to the one held by Michael Hayes, but nothing has been finalized about what he'd be responsible for.
Jacob Fatu looks set for a WWE return, and the John Cena Classic has changed shape
Jacob Fatu could be back on WWE television soon. He reportedly filmed material for the company on November 3 alongside several wrestlers expected to compete at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 28.
The reported plan puts him with Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso against Royce Keys' 946 faction, which recently added Cruz Montana as its sixth member. Fatu hasn't been seen since the September 28 episode of Raw, when Jaida Parker ran him over with a car. Honestly, that's a pretty wild way to leave TV, and he's been gone over a month now.
John Cena Classic
The John Cena Classic is the other big piece. The original idea was a tournament where fans voted on who advanced, no matter who actually won the matches.
WWE reportedly reconsidered because booking the later matches would be a problem without knowing the voting results.
What's confirmed now is that the December 14 event will have Raw and SmackDown Superstars going up against NXT talent. Club WWE members vote for their favorite performances, and the top Superstar gets the night's honor. Cody Rhodes is the first announced participant, and the event streams live on Netflix.
NXT Criticism
NXT is dealing with some criticism as well. People who spoke about Halloween Havoc reportedly felt the Naraku and Shiloh Hill cinematic match “ruined that entire show.”
Worlds Collide News
Separately, scheduling for Worlds Collide on December 15 is still being worked out, since it lands on same night as NXT's regular television broadcast.
