Nanta: Works Ministry allocation up 1.78 pct to RM10.88 billion

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Works (KKR) has been allocated RM10.882 billion under Budget 2027, an increase of 1.78 per cent from last year, to strengthen national infrastructure and improve road safety.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the allocation comprises RM9.736 billion for development expenditure and RM1.146 billion for operating expenditure.
Of the development allocation, RM1.38 billion is for the Pan Borneo Highway, while RM801.46 million has been set aside for road and bridge development in Sabah and RM565.30 million for Sarawak.
In a statement today, Nanta said the government's continued commitment to the Pan Borneo Highway would strengthen connectivity, facilitate travel and support local economic growth.
Nearly RM800 million has also been allocated for Federal road maintenance, including RM350 million for contractors in Sabah and Sarawak.
Nanta said the allocation to empower small Bumiputera contractors in Grades G1 to G4 had increased by 87.5 per cent to RM7.5 billion, from RM4 billion this year.
The special allocation for district engineers nationwide has also risen to RM40 million from RM30 million last year to strengthen project implementation at district level.
He said the ministry would ensure the funds were used effectively through quality project delivery, close progress monitoring and sound financial management.
"The ministry's priority is to ensure that infrastructure is safe to use, meets community needs and delivers the best value for the country," he said. — BERNAMA
