Six Red and White Cooperative outlets completed in Central Papua

Nabire (ANTARA) - Construction of six outlets for Indonesia's Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) in Central Papua has been completed as part of a government program aimed at supporting the distribution of goods and the marketing of local products.

Colonel Inf. Fajar Wibawa Angkasa, head of the territorial section at the 173/PVB Regional Military Command, said on Saturday that four of the completed outlets were in Nabire Regency and two in Mimika Regency.

The Indonesian military, or TNI, was tasked with carrying out the physical construction of the KDMP outlets as part of its support for the government program, Angkasa said.

In Nabire, construction is under way at seven locations. Four outlets have been completed, while work at the other three has reached more than 95 percent completion.

In Mimika, construction of the two planned outlets has been completed, he said.

The number of locations could increase, with four potential sites identified in Nabire and three in Mimika, although construction at those sites will depend on whether requirements are met and land is ready, Angkasa said.

According to Angkasa, technical considerations in determining locations include the availability of at least 600 square meters of land and electricity capacity of at least 5,500 watts

Population size is also considered when selecting locations to ensure the cooperatives have a sufficient community base to support their operations.

“Essentially, there is one KDMP in each village. But we first look at the population situation, because there must be at least 500 households. We will prioritize areas with higher population density first,” Angkasa said.

Lieutenant Colonel Arh. Dwi Palwanto Tirta Mentari, commander of the 1705/Nabire Military District Command, said further preparations were needed before the facilities could begin full operations.

Completion of the buildings would not immediately mean full management would be handed over to cooperative administrators, as they would first receive assistance to prepare for operations, he said.

The assistance is planned to cover administrative management, supply chains, sales, and efforts to improve the capacity of cooperative administrators, he added.

Ministry of Cooperatives data shows that a total of 24,701 KDMPs had completed physical development by Sept. 14, with construction still ongoing for 10,866 others.
