Movie fans are loving this "insane" reunion of Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and more

Earlier this week, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro attended an awards ceremony where they were presented with France's prestigious merit the Legion of Honour by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Surprisingly, this ceremony took place in New York, rather than, you know, France. Although the location might come across as a bit bizarre, it was a reunion that didn't only feature Scorsese and De Niro, but also Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis!

It's safe to say, fans were very excited. French artist JR shared some black and white photos (and a video) from the event to his Instagram featuring the cinematic titans hanging out and posing for the camera, with fans being worked up into a tizzy in the comments.

"First pic is insane JR bravo", reads one comment, while another said "HISTORIQUE" and Sleepless in Seattle actor and singer Rita Wilson commented: "The GOATs!"

"What legends!!! So proud that France honors them," a further fan said, while someone else, of course, posted the Scorsese 'absolute cinema' meme.

Although De Niro and DiCaprio have worked extensively with Scorsese in their careers — 11 and seven times, respectively — the only films of his that they both starred in are 2015's comedy short The Audition and 2023's Killers of the Flower Moon.

De Niro was meant to star in 2002's Gangs of New York, but delays meant he had to drop out and be replaced by... Daniel Day-Lewis (who only collaborated with Scorsese one other time, in 1993's The Age of Innocence).

Interestingly, De Niro and DiCaprio have acted together in two films that Scorsese didn't direct.

The first is 1993's This Boy's Life, which is actually DiCaprio's first feature-film lead role, and 1996's Marvin's Room.
