‘40 cops in civil dress': CJP alleges Deepak Baliyan placed under house arrest ahead of protest

The party also raised concerns over the proposed closure of metro stations and train cancellations ahead of its October 10 protest in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Friday alleged that its national organisation co-in-charge, Deepak Baliyan, had been placed under house arrest, claiming that around 40 police personnel in plain clothes were present at his residence.

In a post on X, the CJP alleged that Alwar Police had returned to Baliyan’s residence after detaining him from his home at night. The party also shared his concerns about the safety of his family.“My family is scared and fears for their safety. Alwar Police will be solely responsible if anything happens to any member of my family,” the post quoted Baliyan as saying. The party also raised concerns over the proposed closure of metro stations and train cancellations ahead of its October 10 protest in Delhi, asking whether the country was witnessing “the making of an Emergency”.In a separate post, the CJP alleged that the government was rattled by the planned demonstration and listed the possible restrictions on public transport in the national capital.“Modi Govt is SHOOK to its core,” the party said, claiming that 57 metro stations could remain closed in Delhi on Saturday, all trains to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4am and 2pm could be cancelled, and more than 30,000 police personnel could be deployed across the city.

“Are we witnessing the making of an Emergency?” the party asked. The allegations come ahead of the CJP’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Delhi Police proposes closure of 57 metro stationsMeanwhile, Delhi Police has requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to close 57 metro stations from 9pm on Friday until Saturday, citing the likelihood of “unruly mob movement towards sensitive locations”.In a letter dated Thursday, Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) Rajneesh Gupta said the frequency of metro trains passing through the identified stations could also be reduced on October 10, depending on the situation. The proposed measures are intended to address security concerns around the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the national capital. The stations listed in the police request include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, INA, Hauz Khas, Azadpur, Jamia Millia Islamia, Shaheen Bagh, Welcome and Rohini West. The proposed closures and service changes would affect commuters travelling through several parts of Delhi. The police request, however, does not by itself confirm that the DMRC has implemented the measures.CJP protest planned for October 10The CJP has announced a youth-led demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10 over alleged “vote theft”, the exclusion of young voters from electoral rolls and other concerns related to the Election Commission.Delhi Police has warned against the proposed gathering, saying prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are in force in the national capital. Police have said unauthorised gatherings would invite legal action.CJP leaders, however, have maintained that they intend to proceed with the protest despite the restrictions.
