Betty Bayo’s Daughter Sky Breaks Down After Court Grants Kanyari Custody

Translate

Sky Victor, the daughter of the late Kikuyu gospel musician Betty Bayo, has made an emotional appeal after a court ruling granted her biological father, Prophet Victor Kanyari, legal custody of her and her younger brother, Danny.

In a Facebook Live broadcast, Sky expressed strong opposition to leaving the home she shared with her late mother and stepfather, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash.

The ruling requires the children to leave Tash’s home and move into their biological father’s care, a prospect Sky said she was struggling to accept.

Sky Makes Emotional Plea

During the livestream, Sky expressed deep distress over the possibility of being separated from the home associated with her late mother.

In an emotional statement, she said she would rather be reunited with her deceased mother than move into Kanyari’s residence.

“If you’re going to take me from this house, please take me where mom is,” Sky said during the live stream. “Let me go lie with her.”

She reiterated her refusal to move, saying the thought of leaving her current home had become overwhelming.

“Wherever my mom is, I go to heaven with her before you even take me to my baba,” she said. “Please, I’m not going there. And I refuse. I refuse completely. I refuse. I refuse.”

Her remarks conveyed the emotional toll the custody dispute has taken on her as the family navigates life following Bayo’s death.

Sky Says She Is Speaking Up for Danny

Sky also explained that her decision to address the matter publicly was driven largely by concern for her younger brother, Danny.

She said watching him cry over the situation had been particularly painful, adding that she wanted the two of them to remain in the environment they had known with their mother.

“And I’m not doing this live for me,” Sky stated during the broadcast. “I’m doing it for Danny. It’s very painful watching him cry.”

She appealed to viewers and the relevant authorities to allow the siblings to remain in their current home.

“Let us just stay where our mom left us,” she pleaded. “That’s all we beg. That’s all we ask for.”

Custody Dispute After Betty Bayo’s Death

The dispute follows the death of gospel musician Betty Bayo in November 2025. Bayo had two children, Sky and Danny, with Kanyari before their relationship ended.

She later married Tash in December 2021, and the children lived with the couple as part of their household.

Following Bayo’s death, a custody dispute emerged between Kanyari and Tash, with Kanyari pursuing legal custody of his biological children and expressing his desire to raise them himself.

The court’s decision has now placed the siblings’ living arrangements at the centre of public discussion, particularly given Sky’s expressed opposition to the move.

Kenyan law recognises the importance of parental responsibility, but decisions involving children must also be considered in light of their welfare and best interests. A child’s views may be relevant to a court’s assessment, depending on their age and maturity, alongside other circumstances.
