CBS Confirms OA’s Fate In FBI Season 9

OA's fate in FBI season 9 is officially sealed.

The 2025-2026 network TV cycle brought many changes to DIck Wolf's CBS franchise. Before FBI even moved to Monday nights, the network pulled the plug on FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, and debuted a new spinoff in CIA. The instability of the team coming from John Scola's partner hunt was finally addressed, however, with the arrival of Eva Ramos. But while FBI has solved this, season 8 ended with the split of another tandem.

In FBI season 8, episode 22, "Defector," Anna Vorpe returned as the head of NSA, but her true color was finally revealed. Throughout the hour, OA, Maggie, Scola, and Eva were forced to play nice with her and her team, which set off a series of intense arguments within the New York Field Office. Zeeko Zaki's character was the most peeved about it, resulting in his firing. Apparently, however, it was a whole ruse for OA to go undercover with Vorpe's team, leaving his FBI season 9 unclear. In fact, the show is even introducing a new partner for Maggie to replace him.

Missy Peregrym and Zaki join Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss for a new social media promo for FBI_CIA on Instagram, confirming OA's future with the New York Field Office. As seen in the video, he's once again decked in his tactical agency clothes, confirming that his undercover operation will be a success and that he will reclaim his place as Maggie's partner in FBI season 9. While there hadn't been any concrete indication that Zaki is looking to exit FBI, it's still great to have confirmation that he will eventually reclaim his place as Maggie's partner. Throughout the last few years, CBS and Wolf Entertainment have been more meticulous with the way they handle the pair's dynamics, especially with calls for their relationship to turn romantic. Leaning on the will-they/won't-they dynamic could have been through an extended separation.

At this point, CBS and Wolf Entertainment have remained mum on the partners' future beyond their professional ties. It has been a series of bad timing for Maggie and OA, as they grapple with their respective personal dilemmas while trying to do their jobs effectively. More recently, Peregrym's character went through a terrible tragedy with the death of her sister, while her partner grappled with the betrayal and death of a close friend and ally. With FBI season 9 being the final guaranteed year for the procedural, it's curious if there's any interest in finally doing substantial for their one-on-one relationship.

What lies beyond the CBS's 2026 lineup for FBI is uncertain at this point. It's no secret that the last year was difficult for the show, especially as it dealt with stiffer competition. Whatever the case may be, hopefully OA and Maggie's partnership gets the focus they deserve, as it's the backbone of the procedural.
