3 New Scenes Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Extended Re-Release Can Include

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is getting a re-release to extend the runtime with new footage, and there are several possibilities for what scenes could be added. When Sony released director Destin Daniel Cretton's movie in theaters on July 31, it clocked in at a robust 2 hours and 30 minutes. Audiences were more than pleased, with Tom Holland's fourth solo film earning the highest Rotten Tomatoes score.

Rather than simply bask in the glory of Spider-Man: Brand New Day​​​​​​'s record-breaking box office, currently sitting at nearly $2.5 billion, Sony has decided to go back for more. It has been reported that a Spider-Man: Brand New Day re-release is in the works, with Sony intending to add in extra footage that previously was left on the cutting room floor. No release date for the re-release has been confirmed.

The news follows a trend for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Far From Home was put back in theaters with scenes cut from the film. Avengers: Endgame also got a re-release in 2019 with some deleted scenes, while 2026 brought Avengers Endgame: Encore to theaters with fresh footage connecting to Avengers: Doomsday. Given the latter's success, Sony looking to give Brand New Day an additional bump makes sense.

The question that comes with such a re-release is what footage will be added. Several moments in the film's trailers wound up not being in the movie. Those involved have confirmed additional sequences that were cut through the editing process. Perhaps entirely new footage will even be shot, as Marvel did with Avengers Endgame: Encore. Claire Temple's Cameo

One of the big surprises to come for Spider-Man: Brand New Day ahead of its release was that Rosario Dawson filmed a cameo as Claire Temple, the night nurse from Daredevil and other Marvel-Netflix shows. The actress confirmed that she had participated in the production, with the film's writers confirming she helped Spider-Man after his fight with Scorpion. However, her scene was cut in the end.

This is one known deleted scene fans have wanted to see most of all, so it being included in Brand New Day's re-release is a no-brainer. Reports about Sony's plans for the extra footage even note that this is one of the sequences Sony plans to add. So, fans should rest assured knowing that Claire will be featured in the new cut, allowing her to interact with Spider-Man for the first time in the MCU.

Spider-Man Fighting Multiple Classic Comic Villains

For all the villains in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there seems to have been even more originally planned. Cretton revealed in an interview with Nerdtropolis that there was a scene where they threw "a whole bunch of villains into this one giant fight scene" against Spider-Man. The fight pitted Spidey against "old classics," but it was ultimately removed from the movie before hitting theaters originally.

This feels like a prime candidate to be included in the re-release. It might have slowed the pacing down or felt unnecessary before, but Cretton and his team spent a lot of time and energy designing the villains and pulling off the fight. The re-release is a perfect opportunity to showcase what they accomplished and add a few more Spider-Man villains to the character's MCU history.

A New Scene For Avengers: Doomsday

On top of adding in previously shot scenes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's re-release could, in theory, also add in completely new footage meant to tease Spider-Man's MCU future more specifically. Avengers Endgame: Encore teased Spider-Man's link to Doom and his plan. It's quite possible that Holland has secretly filmed a new scene that explains where he is in Doomsday, possibly making him Doom's next recruit after Hulk.

This would make sense on a few levels for Marvel. It would be a way to use Spider-Man: Brand New Day's popularity to help build more anticipation for Doomsday while also suggesting that Holland's web-slinger will appear. The promise of an Avengers: Doomsday-related scene could also drive more people to see the re-release in theaters.
