The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has fixed N5m as the initial deposit for intending pilgrims from the state for the 2027 Hajj, with the balance of the fare expected to be paid on or before the end of November 2026.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the board’s Press Secretary, Jimoh Jumoke, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH in Ilorin.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of the board, Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, said preparations had commenced for the 2027 Hajj operation, assuring intending pilgrims that the board was working to ensure a smooth, comfortable and well-coordinated pilgrimage.

He explained that intending pilgrims could make the initial N5m payment upon presentation of valid international passports, while the outstanding balance would be determined and paid within the approved timeline.

“The intending pilgrims are expected to make an initial deposit of N5m with their valid international passports, while the balance of the Hajj fare should be paid on or before the end of November 2026,” Abdulkadir said.

The Executive Secretary urged prospective pilgrims to make payments only through banks and channels designated by the board and ensure that all required documentation was submitted within the stipulated period.

He also advised intending pilgrims to promptly renew passports that would expire before April 2027 to avoid documentation challenges as preparations for the pilgrimage progressed.

“Pilgrims should ensure that their travel documents remain valid throughout the period required for the pilgrimage,” he added.

Abdulkadir said the board had introduced improvements in its airlift arrangements, which he said had reduced the number of trips required to transport Kwara pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

According to him, the previous official air carrier used by the state could airlift about 260 pilgrims per trip, resulting in a longer airlift period.

He said the current arrangement had increased the capacity to about 560 pilgrims per trip, reducing the number of trips from about 15 to four.

“The improvement will not only shorten the period required to airlift Kwara pilgrims but will also contribute to a more efficient and convenient Hajj experience,” Abdulkadir said.

He added that the board remained committed to providing effective leadership, proper coordination and improved services throughout the 2027 Hajj operation.

Abdulkadir also expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and the Chief Imam of Ilorin for their support.

He further thanked members of staff of the board, agents and intending pilgrims, urging continued cooperation as preparations for the 2027 Hajj gathered momentum.
