There’s something about autumn that makes me want to give my wardrobe a little refresh. Think cosy knits, beautifully tailored coats, great boots and those versatile pieces that make getting dressed in the morning feel that little bit easier. And while I love adding a few new things to my collection, I’m always looking for pieces that will earn their keep long after the season has changed.

Enter John Lewis. The retailer has so many brilliant autumn finds this year, from elevated everyday essentials to statement pieces that do all the styling work for you. Even better, you can currently save 20 per cent on these five outfits, making now the perfect time to invest in a few new-season favourites. Here’s exactly how I’d style them.

1. The off-duty uniform

For those days when comfort is key, I’d reach for black wide-leg jeans, a simple white long-sleeved top and this asymmetric high-neck jacket. The contemporary silhouette makes the outfit feel more considered, while ruched leather loafers and gold mini hoops provide the finishing touches. Effortless, versatile and easy to recreate with pieces you probably already own.

2. The modern trench-coat outfit

A trench coat is an autumn staple I return to every year, and this belted style looks effortlessly chic with indigo jeans and a rich red knit. The leopard-print Chelsea boots add personality without overpowering the outfit, while the black leather belt pulls everything together. It’s an easy weekend uniform that feels classic with a little twist.

3. The elevated everyday outfit

You can’t go wrong with great tailoring and a cosy knit, and I love how these checked trousers work with a brushed cashmere jumper and sculpted-sleeve blazer. The chocolate suede loafers keep things comfortable yet polished, while the roomy black tote is perfect for everyday essentials. It’s an easy formula for the office, lunch dates and everything in between.

4. The dressed-up autumn look

For an outfit that feels a little more special, I’d pair this voluminous taffeta midi skirt with the floral tie-neck blouse for a romantic touch. Knee-high boots and a tailored wool-blend coat keep the look chic and practical, while the statement drop earrings add just the right amount of sparkle. Perfect for dinner plans or an occasion that calls for something a little dressier.

5. The chic leather-trouser look

Leather trousers are an easy way to elevate an outfit, and this dark olive pair feels like a refreshing alternative to black. I’d style them with a crisp white shirt and double-breasted blazer, adding Western-inspired ankle boots and a leather bowler bag to finish. It’s a polished yet modern combination that works just as well for the office as it does for dinner.
