Hollie Armitage ton signs off Durham's campaign with a win

An excellent century from Hollie Armitage helped Durham close their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign with a four-wicket victory over Warwickshire.

The Bears got off to a positive start with an opening partnership worth 79, but Durham struck back with a cluster of wickets. Katie George then made a classy century to take Warwickshire to a total of 279 for 8.

Durham lost both openers early on in their chase of 280, but captain Armitage, who was well supported by half-centurion Bess Heath, responded by making her ninth List A hundred to take Durham to the target with four wickets to spare.

Both sides were unable to qualify for the One Day Cup knockouts prior to the game, but there was pride at stake. Durham won the toss and elected to bowl, however, Warwickshire opening pair Nat Wraith and Chloe Brewer got the visitors off to a solid start.

Both openers were afforded a second life, with Harriet Robson and Trudy Johnson dropping catches off the bowling of Lauren Filer. Brewer and Wraith's partnership then passed fifty within the powerplay.

The aggressive Wraith was then dismissed by Mady Villiers for a fluent 48 after she was caught at mid-off. Brewer was then lbw to Katie Levick and Brooke Halliday was run out as Durham launched a fightback.

George and Charis Pavely joined forces in the middle and the former was the aggressor in the partnership as she passed fifty for the sixth time this season.

The Bears continued to build through Pavely and George, who accelerated the scoring in the final stages of the innings. Filer responded in style, picking up the wickets of Pavely, Sophie Beech and Em Arlott.

However, George remained at the crease and notched up her second century of the season. Eleanor Larosa picked up the wickets of Mary Taylor and Alexa Stonehouse, but George remained unbeaten as Warwickshire set Durham 280 to win.

Durham's chase got off to a nightmare start as Stonehouse accounted for Danni Collins early on, with George producing an excellent catch. Stonehouse got her second wicket as Robson pulled one to the fielder on the leg-side boundary.

Villers was the next Durham batter to be dismissed as Phoebe Brett accounted for her when she was caught at mid-on. Armitage remained at the crease and made a tidy half-century, with any hopes of a home win resting on her shoulders.

Thompson joined Armitage in the middle and the pair built a fifty partnership as Durham looked to make inroads into the Warwickshire target.

When it seemed things were going well for the hosts, Thompson then fell at the hands of Arlott. However, Armitage was joined by Heath and they chipped away, with Warwickshire desperate for a breakthrough.

Armitage made a second hundred of the season to edge Durham towards victory, while the enterprising Heath passed fifty. Hannah Baker dismissed Armitage and Pavely got Heath late, but the hosts got over the line.
