Euromatch NPFL: We Defended Poorly –Yusuf Left Frustrated After Shooting Stars’ Loss To Kun Khalifat

Translate

Shooting Stars head coach Salisu Yusuf has expressed deep disappointment with his side’s defensive frailties following their 2-0 defeat to Kun Khalifat in Matchday 8 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Kun Khalifat ruthlessly capitalized on the visitors’ defensive shortcomings to secure a crucial home victory. Agor Chukwuma broke the deadlock in the 40th minute before Uche doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute to put the game out of reach.

Reacting after the final whistle, a candid Yusuf made no excuses for the loss, admitting that the hosts fully deserved all three points for their resolute display.

“The opponents deserved to win. They played better and defended well. We didn’t play well, and we defended poorly. That’s why we lost the game,” Yusuf said.

Having recently taken charge of the Oluyole Warriors, the veteran tactician noted that the defeat has laid bare the immediate challenges he faces in turning the team’s fortunes around, stressing that fixing the backline is now his utmost priority.

“I have just joined the team, and we have to take a closer look at the defensive line. It is very disturbing,” he admitted.

With the setback highlighting urgent areas for structural correction, Yusuf’s focus will firmly shift toward tightening his squad’s defense ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
