The agreement covers exchanges and participation in cultural activities, including exchanges of artists, cultural practitioners, experts, and delegations from both countries.
It also provides for cooperation between cultural institutions, including museums and historical manuscript preservation institutions, as well as literary development, translation, publishing, film, and audiovisual production.
Other areas include capacity-building through training, workshops, and residency programs, cultural promotion, information exchanges, policy consultations, and coordination on cultural issues at bilateral, regional, and international levels.
"Cooperation also covers cultural promotion, information exchanges, and policy consultations, as well as coordination on cultural issues at the bilateral, regional, and international levels," Fadli said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
The MoU marks the first bilateral agreement between Indonesia and Uruguay specifically establishing a framework for cultural cooperation. It is intended to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding between the two countries.
The agreement will remain in force for five years from the date of the last signature and will be automatically extended in accordance with its provisions.
The document, prepared in Indonesian, Spanish, and English, was handed to Uruguay's Ambassador to Indonesia, Cristina Gonzalez, who attended the signing ceremony. She will carry it to Montevideo through a diplomatic pouch for signature by Uruguay's Minister of Education and Culture, José Carlos Mahía.
Fadli signed the document accompanied by Director General of Cultural Diplomacy, Promotion and Cooperation Endah T.D. Retnoastuti and Director of Cultural Cooperation Mardisontori. Representatives of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's Directorate for the Americas II also attended the ceremony.
