Thailand sweep Mongolia 3-0 in Asian Games volleyball opener

NAGOYA, Japan — 16 September 2026, Thailand’s women’s volleyball team made a winning start to the 2026 Asian Games after sweeping Mongolia 3-0 in their opening Group C match in Nagoya on Wednesday.

The women’s volleyball competition at the 20th Asian Games is being held in Nagoya, Japan, from 16 to 22 September 2026.

Thailand entered the match with a dominant record against Mongolia. The teams had met three times previously, with Thailand winning all three encounters in straight sets.

Head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, known as Coach Aot, rested several key players but still fielded a strong starting lineup featuring Kanyarat Khunmuang, Sasipaporn Chandavisets, Natchanicha Jaisan, Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Chatchu-on Moksri and Kaewkalaya Kamulthala.

Piyanut Pannoy started as the libero, while Mongolia were led by captain Purevsuren Enkhkhoslen.

Despite leaving veteran regulars Pornpun Guedpard, Pimpichaya Kokram and Thatdao Nuekjang out of the starting lineup, Thailand controlled the match and secured a comfortable straight-set victory.

Thailand won 25-12, 25-18 and 25-18 to claim their first victory of the tournament.

The Thai team will return to action against Kyrgyzstan on 17 September at 17:00, with live coverage on PPTV HD 36.
