Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED’s latest action RPG, is getting a massive new update for free thanks to the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. The first season of the anime adaptation of the game was a massive hit, following the story of David, Lucy, and their allies in a unique story set in Night City. Fans of the show can even pick up David Martinez’s jacket in Cyberpunk 2077 and find other Easter eggs across the game, such as Rebecca’s shotgun and more. Now, however, fans can start looking toward the future.

Season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has finally made its official debut today, November 20, over four years since the release of the first season. Telling a brand-new story with a brand-new cast of characters, you can already watch all 10 episodes on Netflix. That, however, is not the end of the content. According to a new report by Eurogamer, CD Projekt RED has officially announced a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 featuring Edgerunners 2-related content. Players can expect a ton of new gear, and it will arrive pretty soon, so be sure your game is updated before the patch drops.

As per the official announcement on the Cyberpunk 2077 account on X, the Edgerunners 2 update for the action RPG, called Version 2.5, will be released on October 22. According to the Eurogamer report, the update will be made available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC exclusively. A Nintendo Switch 2 version “will follow shortly,” but no specific release date has been mentioned so far. Much like the connection between Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners’ first season, you can expect a similar approach with this new patch.

According to the official press release by CD Projekt RED, the Version 2.5 patch will add “a range of new items and features to the game, including content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.” So yes, you’ll likely be able to pick up the weapons and gear you see the characters using in the show, now within the RPG’s setting. Exactly what else these “new items and features” entail remains to be seen, however – luckily, we don’t have to wait much longer for the Edgerunner 2 update in Cyberpunk 2077.

This may be the final content update for Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt RED is no longer actively working on the RPG. It feels like the Edgerunner 2 content drop is more of a treat for players and a way of getting show views rising rather than a step toward more updates later on. As of right now, CD Projekt RED is all hands on deck with The Witcher 4, while a portion of the team is likely working on Project Orion, expected to be the next major entry in the Cyberpunk gaming franchise.

Before any of that happens, however, the company will likely release the third and final expansion for The Witcher 3, called Songs of the Past – the DLC will serve as a bridge between Wild Hunt and the upcoming sequel. There’s a lot on CD Projekt RED’s plate right now, and the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 update for Cyberpunk 2077 is a massive gift for fans.
